"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for." - Dead Poets Society 1989

This brilliant movie quote pretty much says it all. There is not much I can add, but I’ll throw in my two cents. Staying alive is important. It’s why we struggle to make ends meet, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay out of trouble. But passion is why we do all of it. Without passion, what’s the point?

So, what is passion?

The Britannica Dictionary defines it as follows: “a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something.”

It’s why we get up in the morning. And it doesn’t matter what we are excited about. What excites one person may seem unappealing to another. That’s why we have football as well as knitting.

My strongest passion is being creative, particularly with the written word. I also love to paint. This passion extends to the creativity of others. That’s why I enjoy reading and visiting art museums.

I am also passionate about learning. I enthusiastically search for new knowledge. This search can take many forms: traveling to new places, experiencing different cultures, reading a book about science, or watching a documentary about history.

In addition, I am an avid sports fan, film buff, and music lover. I am blessed to have so much to look forward to.

What are you passionate about?
